Bike recommendations wanted

Hi all,
A female colleague has asked me for recommendations for a bike topping out at around the £500 mark (I know, its a tough ask).
She is pretty sporty but not comfortable with idea of) drops so I showed her a flat bar road bike and she said that looked about right to her. She will probably be a fair weather cyclist so I doubt it needs disc brakes, mudguards etc
I suggested the Giant Rapid 4, but has anyone else got any recommendations?

Spesh do a Vita which is quite nice (my wife has one and likes it a lot). It is zippy, light (ish), comfortable and not too sporty. You could probably get an Elite one for the money if you shopped around.
I can't see my wife doing a century on it but, then again, her longest spin is currently 30M so that's not a problem.0
