    Oh dear.

I've never had this problem cycling as I don't tend to go into bars and cafes on a ride. I have however, been part of a group of climbers in a pub after an extremely long day on the fells and we've had to move away from each other because we couldn't stand it! Synthetic fabrics are absolutely geat for this.

All of this pales into insignificance to when you go take a face off at an ice hockey match and one of the guys skates up and reeks like nothing you've ever smelt before. Ice hockey pads are not the easiest things to wash.

They had cycled 6 miles and gave off strong body odours, not really a group of cyclists is it? Bit of a non-story a group of unfit people cycled for six miles and got very sweaty, went into a pub and gave off strong body odours, which they may have in normal circumstances, due to being very unfit. Or perhaps they were wearing highly insulated clothing on a warm day?

    Fresh sweat doesn't smell.

    Old sweat does.

Sounds to me like unwashed clothes.

Not sure about the "very unfit" bit. They are a running club. If you follow the link to a more detailed story:

Fellow cyclist John McGarry, 59, a retired accountant from Colden Common, added, “My only reaction was stunned amazement – I have run enough marathons over the years to recognise when I am sweaty and smelly, but even then no one has ever complained.”

Those that run several marathons tend to be reasonably fit.

Agree that it is not really much of a story, however.

Last week I was at a pub in Ambleside - one of my favourite boozers when I'm up there - and the it's gone 'dog friendly'. It was a rainy day and the smell was horrific. 'Wet dog' is just one of those smells that automatically makes me gag. Sweaty cyclist can't be that bad, surely...

    +1 wet dog = gag
  • Ever thought that the people themselves hadn't washed before their bike ride?

    Can we fix it?
    Yes we can!

I've been in that pub. When I was a nip, the owners wouldn't let kids in... but dogs were alright.

Bit of a dump to be honest.
