Size of German commuter bikes

I've just got back from a series of meetings in Frankfurt and was amazed at the size of the commuter bikes - especially the ones the women were riding, enormous!

Massively tall sit up and beg frames on 700C wheels and hub gears - not one of the riders could possibly have got a toe on the tarmac from the seated position. Looked really practical for city riding though (not sure how they'd fare at SCR though) all sporting full mudguards and most with baskets.

Germanic function over form I guess.
FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits
CAADX 105 beastie for bumpy bits
Litespeed L3 for Strava bits

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

Every day I put up the saddle on my girlfriend's bike by a couple of mm. Within a week she's noticing fitness gains.
  • my big green lump of hybrid is like that, I look down on SUV, buses..... getting on and off the beast is not as easy as it could be, and its heavy and sluggish though if you clack though teh gears you can pull away from the lights okay.
