Bars question, position and width related!

Afternoon all!
Just been out for a quick spin with the new bars on and have come back with doubts in my mind that they are wide enough!
I've changed over some FSA K-force xc bars at 630mm for some FSA gravity FR bars (Cheap!!) At 680mm, now, they feel great but, whilst riding around I noticed more and more my hands were overhanging the edges of the bars by 10-15mm each side, I didn't notice it so much on the old bars as they were narrower my arms were in rather than in my as close to Normal relaxed position, (have a large chest!)
Now, is this an indication that I ought to maybe get some wider bars?? Maybe 710's so that I'm on the grips rather than the edges?? Does that make sense??

Also current and past were 25mm rise, would opting for a 40mm rise make much difference to position apart from being a little more upright?? (The 710mm bars come in both 35mm or 40mm) or is the higher rise more of a DH requirement??

Any help or pointers very gratefully received for this some what confused/bemused rider!

yea its difficult i went from starting with a oval m600 550mm flat bar to a raceface next sl 610mm 1.5" riser bar both with a exotic carbon stem 80mm

then settled for a chromag fubar acute has 5 degree upsweep, 7 degree bend, 25mm rise crc puts as 700mm but its meant to be 710mm with a chromag ranger 50mm stem. hard to describe just felt right, stiff enough and handled confidently. yea having the bar rise in the vertical position helped
i seem to have broad shoulders and long arms tho im a bit of stick man.

there was a thread a while back about bar and stem length but i couldn't find it.
sheepsteeth & or yeehaamcgee or someone ive forgotten should be able to help more than i

if it didn't happen on your shorter bars it might be more to do with the sweep of the new bars rather than the width.
  • thanks guys,
i might give them a roll forward a little and see if that makes any difference,
sweep wise they are pretty spot on what the K-force were, compared them both prior to fitting the news, but then, one degree more or less could easily be lost on the eye measure!!

may grab a 710mm as they are comparitively cheap and test it out, am a wide shouldered bloke and just like the comfy feel of the arms not being pulled in as such! but also need to measure the gap through the 'anti tank wall' at the bottom of the local woods as is at the end of a Very fast run down!!! dont want a sudden stop and fire me through syndrome happening hahah!
