trying to fit these:

noob question, do I have to take off the brake calipers and fit the guards onto a bolt behind the calipers? I can't see any other way to attach them. Or am I just a numpty?

Yes, you would need to remove brakes to secure top part of mudguards. However the bike you have linked (yours?), does not appear to have any mudguard eyelets on the front forks, so I would suggest SKS full guards would not be an option.

It may well be possible with P-clips. Clearance will be tight and it may require some ingenuity but I'm sure I've seen a CAAD road frame fitted with full guards.

Those would fit your bike with or without the eyelets for the mounting of the SKS mud guards you have linked there. I hope that helps because without some way of fitting it to your bike (cable ties) i cant really see any other way of attaching linked mudguards to linked bike :?

+1 for the Crud RR's. I have recently fitted a pair (MK2's) to my Langster. They are a bit fiddly to fit, but superb once on.

If you can get them to fit (see comment about P-clips above) then proper guards are a lot nicer than Cruds. Much less flappy.
  • Cheers for the advice guys (and damn you evans for telling me that the SKS's would fit)

MajorMantra - can you tell me what P-Clips are? I think I can sort out taking off the brake calipers and fitting the 'slotty' part of the guard onto the frame, but can't for the life of me see (now I've looked properly) how I'd attach the guard 'spokes' to the wheel hubs without eyelets.

Buying the cruds is looking more and more likely

A lot is possible with some ingenuity:

If you want more inspiration, it's worth noting when googling that Americans call mudguards 'fenders'.
