Altura Mahem are worth a look too - they have a detachable liner and can be had for £35 delivered online.

No point in buying baggies with a built-in liner because:
    a) the liner is always sh*te
    b) you need to wash the liner after every ride, whereas the baggies can go weeks (or even months) without being washed :)

Your local bike shop will sell you a pair of otherwise ace Humvees without the liner, then have a look for some quality liner shorts from an MTB-specific brand such as Mace, Fox, Royal. They all use the same CoolMax Silver pad but it is further back - better for the more upright riding position on an MTB.

    a) I guess that's your opinion...the ones I have has have been brilliant and am on my second pair in two years...so yep they last
    b) you dirty sod :o

I also thought Endura clothing was cycling specific...and also buying baggies and a seperate liner from the likes of Fox, Mace and Royal will probably go over the said budget !

In my opinion its better to spend a little more and get separate outer and inner shorts, you much much more out of them. You can get very good comfortable inners or around £30 made by Mace or Fox. If on a budget then just wear normal shorts over the top or look at the DHB range at wiggle.

i bought 2 pairs of padded lycra undershorts from halfords for £15 over a year ago and they're still going strong, i bought some regatta baggy shorts from a local shop for £12 that look really nice..bargain :D
  • Thanks all so these would be a good buy then, removable coolmax pad that can be washed with the over shorts for less than £30

What he said - and then get a second (or more) pair of clickfast liners so you aren't always scrabbling around for a clean pair.

I don't see any point going for click fast specific liners? I have a pair of cannondale shorts that have a similar system but never use it. My non-click fast under shorts always stay exactly where I left them.

But I do think its worth getting MTB specific padded shorts compared to road specific as the pad is in a different position and more comfortable.

Altura Mayhem are good, come with a decent-enough removable liner, it's not great but it works. And the shorts are extremely nice for the price.

Clickfast works for me...I guess it's horses for courses, so if you find something you like, stick with it !

endura humvees I reckon, you can buy a separate liner if you need spares, they work well and the liners fit other clipfast ones so I use em in my 3/4 singletracks as well

    I love endura kit me

Nah, you don't have to do that, modern fabrics don't rot for years.
