Firstly, hello and thanks for reading this!

So I recently got myself a Giant CRS 1 2010 for daily commuting. All was going well, I was enjoying myself immensely and was curious about what I could to to make things even more fun, so after talking to some biker mates I decided to acquire a new set of pedals for my ride and promptly set about cross-threading my shiny new chainset like an absolute berk. Bugger.

I've done a bit of research and this was the set that I destroyed;

However I found that I never really strayed from the middle, 36 gear when riding as my commute has only some slight inclines, so this presents me with a perfect opportunity to upgrade to a more suitable chainset. What kind of sets should I be looking for? And should I stick with a triple or look at getting a double? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Sticking to an Octalink BB will limit your options quite a lot as its now superceeded, so it looks like you'll be either getting a straight replacement or it will cost you a bit more to replace the lot.

    Just spotted this on CRC http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=2647 slightly taller 'middle' gear (its only a double) and better spec.

    Plus it's on offer... very tempted to snap that one up! What would my options be if I were to move to a newer model than the Octalink? Would something like this be a good choice for me?
