Looking for matching finishing kit with layback seat

Hi people,

I've just purchased a new planet x sl carbon with part SRAM Red build and today have a retul fit to nail down my position.

Was quite an eye opener and I've gone from a small framed bike with 90 mm stem and striaght seat post to a medium frame, 110 mm stem with a 25mm laidback seatpost.

I'm looking now purely at asthetics and weight and looking to go for a matching finishing set.

Bike currently has a SL250 FSA seat post (25mm layback) and planet x 42cm bars and 120mm 6 degree stem.

Bike is pearl white so looking for a black set. Can any one suggest a suitable matching set of finishing kit. Not particulalry bothered about allor or carbon, would like to lightem componenets a bit, but not going to throw money at it. Ritchey do a nice finishing kit set, any other companies finishing kit that people can recommend?

Cheers and thanks,

Dru

Nap - nice find, I think if value is judged on looks - the FSA stuff is going to be expensive!

Do we know where the cheapest places in town are for those parts?

The other question is bars. I normally have shallow drop bars, do I go for matching carbon or go for alloy?
  • In terms of fit, bars are a very personal choice but 110mm stems and 25mm layback seatposts are very common. So find the bars you like and work from there.

3T do some nice shallow drop bars like the Ergonova and Ergosum.

  • You can't go wrong with Deda or 3T finishing kit.

I'm thinking of an upgrade of my own seatpin to this over the winter

I just bought some Deda Newton Shallow bars for one of my bikes (replacing anatomics) and I love them!
I had a Deda Zero 100 stem on there which was very light but like a bloody noodle! Replaced with the FSA OS99 CSI, heavier but really really stiff. If I wasn't built like I was then I'd be more than happy with the Deda.

I personally think Deda stuff is the best looking...

www.shinybikes.com do very good prices on Deda.

Thanks for the heads up about Shiny Bikes. Never heard of them before. Are they trustworthy?

Yes, first time I used them my bars went astray (Royal Mail's fault) and it was sorted really quickly. Nice to chat to on the phone too!

A couple of people on here have bought C59s and SR11 groups from them, really good prices.

Cheers guys, will have a look.

not seen the deda stuff before - however also my funds have to go elsewhere so will possibly upgrade over time or as bargains present themselves ( also have to do the old which colour bar tapes and hoods etc (came with black tape and white sram hoods!

I however need to also buy some bits and pieces for the winter hack too (read that as original first bike)

After going to Bikescience in Bristol for the retul fit on my new bike (PX) I've got the measurements etc and are putting them into my old bike - I'm astonished how out my old position was.
I've had to lift the saddle over 40mm, push it back 50mm and also I need to lengthen the stem by a further 30mm to get the same fitted position..... I think therefore my old bike position was very sit up and beg!

    Nap,

Those Thomson posts you showed there, are they reversible. I did not know that the bent ones where layback ones - I always thought they were forward facing.

They are layback. If they pointed forward it would look most bizarre!

I have Thomson on my Winter/Training bike -

It's really good stuff. (I also have a Thomson stem and seatpost on my MTB)

Do it and post a photo :D

The Thomson posts and Stems are things of beauty, especially in silver.
I still have a black post from my MTB, might use it on my roadbike if i can get a matching stem cheap enough.
