If ever a man was full of hot air and self importance it was him.

Too right. Thankfully, there's none of that 'round here.

A sensible decision; as soon as he became the 'story' he was a liability. Now, if only others would follow his lead...

Are you hinting at another windbag packed full of hot air who works in Aigle, Mr Jones?

He is probably paying the price for his support of the Novitsky investigations and for offering to retest Armstrong's Tour samples. After all, we all know of Armstrong's close links with Sarko, and what happened to Patrice Clerc in a similar situation.

    Armstrong is already crowing...

    Au revoir Pierre.

What with this and Stephanie McIllvain continuing to 'toe the party line' it may be that Armstrong's influence is even greater than most people have estimated. (Although we also need to bear in mind the power of the corporate interests who exploit his 'brand').

That's right, it's all about Armstrong.

Nothing to do with his his issues with his state funding and the fact he was due to retire soon anyway.

Given he was due to retire soon, why not wait? Doubtless the timing was just an amazing 'coincidence'...

Wow. I'm amazed Lance's Blackberry can get a signal inside his hollowed-out volcano.

That's cheating! I thought it was Scrabble rules... :D

Anyway, I doff my cap to iainf72 for pointing me in the direction of the cycnlingnews forums. It really is hilarious the way the tinfoil hat brigade over there (i.e. almost all of them) have gone into overdrive over this one.

Interesting comments from Bordry here about his resignation:

    http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/5817/Pierre-Bordry-resigned-from-ALFD-due-to-lack-of-political-will-to-fight-doping.aspx
He was also critical of the current French political establishment over its relationship with the seven-time Tour winner. Particularly president Nicolas Sarkozy, whose relationship with Armstrong he cites as one of the sources of pressure on his agency.

“You can’t pay tribute to Lance Armstrong without acknowledging the doubts that hang over his performance,” said Bordry.

The result of all this, claims Bordry, is a 2011 AFLD budget reduced to 2009 levels.

No, it's still crazy. Government departments all across Europe have had their funding cut, and the AFLD are no different. Just because Bordry says something, it doesn't make it so.

Cuts or not, it is clear that Bordry is far from happy with the support the AFLD has been given. I also doubt that Sarko was pleased with Bordry's comments about his old mate and bike provider Armstrong. Who knows, perhaps Sarko got on the phone about it and that was the final straw as far as Bordry was concerned...

there's not really any need for conspiracy theories here. There's a wealth of evidence against LA without needing resort to complete conjecture.

Personally, I think that rather than it being 'complete conjecture', Bordry's positions is such that he knows exactly what is going on behind the scenes...
