Boardman Pro - Frame Swap?

Hey,
Lots of research and laps round halfords has confirmed that the Boardman Pro (large) is too small for me :-( So, now looking for something else (21.5 inch frame) but yet to find anything comparable.
I'm thinking of buying the boardman (Pro) anyway and stripping it down, selling the frame and sourcing a larger frame, so....
Anyone interested in buying a Pro frame in brand new condition? How much would it be worth? £200 - £250???
Is this going to be more hassle than its worth? With invariably different cable routing lenghts, frame diameters (Front mech mount?) headsets etc?? Quick (very crude maths) say the compont spec is worth the hassle of the re-build.
Anyone done this??
Also anyone recommend any good lightweight hardtail frames??
Thanks!!

If you have an ebay account you can search completed listings (advanced search) last time I looked at Boradmans used frames went for about £100-125 (0n in for sale on here, £85) so £150-200 new I guess?

How would you know a 21.5 would fit you though? Sizes vary enormously, as does geo, for a given listed size.
You need to try more bikes and frames if unsure what geo you need.0 -
I'm 6'4'' with 33"" / 34"" inside leg
The riding position in the saddle isn;t actually too bad, but out of the saddle me weight is right over the front wheel. I've tried a 21.5" Felt and that was a much more comfortable position for my riding. Anyway, size issues aside, this thread is really aimed at frame swap out potential v monster faff!
Cheers!!0 -
Ok, just saying you could avoid a huge amount of faff with a slightly longer stem and a layback seatpost.
I'm 6" but with the same leg length as you, so obviously a shorter body, I often find myself thinking that a slightly smaller frame would be better for me. I ride a 20" Boardman Pro HT.
The bigesst problem for you, I guess (based on your 'proportions') may well be the top tube length, rather than saddle height, as I can get my saddle high enough to suit my 33" inside leg with the standard seatpost. But a layback seatpost and a longer stem and different bars may solve that.
Potential problems would be:
-Fork steerer length
-Cables
-Front Mech
-Headset
-Seatpost
-Seatpost clamp
-Chain length
I may have missed some. The fork steerer should be fairly easy to avoid, by buying a frame with a similar head tube (or shorter) to the Boardman. The rest are fairly minor things that aren't going to be massively expensive.0 -
Thanks! Yes, you're spot on, its all about the top tube length for me. The 21.5" felt was a much more balanced ride in and out of the saddle.
The reason for my bizarre approach is I don't think I can build a bike from components on the Bike to work scheme, but with the boardman I could get most of the bits (Top spec) for £750 (ish) Don't mind paying a bit more for a decent frame (That fits that is)0 -
I'm 6'4 and 34 ' inside leg too and find the boardman (comp) i have fine
Just moved the saddle back a wee bit.
Seems like a lot of hassle to me you should be out riding !Boardman Comp.

Get the pro, try it for a bit and if it doesn't suit you then get a new frame, you'll end up with a top end hardtail for not too much cash either way.And now you know, and knowing is half the battle
