Hi all i have just purchased a giant reign 3 05 model, nice looking bike and the frame is in mint condition. it came with a manitou swinger 3 way rear (spv)suspension. i have rode the bike several times now and there seems to a knock on the rear suspension hitting small low compression bumps, as the shock had it? or do i need to adjust anything? is this normal?

Many thanks GJC

The knocking may not be the shock itself, but could be the bushings at the points it's bolted to the frame.

If the bushings are worn there will be a small amount of play, that would cause a knocking sound.

Before you go down the road of getting the shock looked at, check the bushings ...

Many thanks for the reply, i have checked the bushings for play they feel solid. there seem to be two air chambers one at top of shock and one at bottom, could not enough air in these may cause the knocking?

Have you downloaded and read the manual?

yes you may have the wrong settings and if you are unlucky you may have damaged the shock.

one valve for the air spring and another for the SPV valve.

But this depends on the version of the shock. is it a a swinger AIR 3 way? or coil?

and is the shock 2005 year or?

the OE shock IS a 3 way air.
