Hi

I'm trying to get a bike in the sales as it sounds like prices are going up for new ranges.

Any opinions on best buy out of these?

Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Tiagra 2010 (£750)

Trek 1.5 Compact 2010 Road Bike (£700)

Python RX1 (£700)

FELT-F85 - maybe an older model (£600)
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... LT-F85.htm

Battaglin S12 Comp Veloce 2010 (£750)

Boardman Comp (£700)

My local bike shop is not being very helpful hence I'm going for the web

Thanks in advance

Just a few words of advice from me.

I've been riding since 2003, and in that time have been mostly using a Tiagra Equipped Specialized Sirrus Sport (Flat Bar Road Bike). I decided this summer that i wanted something a bit different, so I brought a 105 equipped Trek 2.3, which is an absolutely excellent bike, but a bit above budget at £1200.

However, back to the original question, my trusty Sirrus, which has been absolutely superb, totally reliable aside from the odd flat here and there, met its match in an accident two weeks ago when I got wiped out by a car. Bent frame - bike dead.

I needed something to replace it for my daily 20 mile commute, so I purchased a Specialized Allez Double for £450 shortly after the accident. Its equipped with a Shimano 2300 groupset and the thumb shifters, but is a superb bike to ride, especially for the money.

For a recreational bike I would certainly highly recommend it, and spend the other £300 on a decent helmet, some gloves (I use Endura FS260 Gel) some SPD Pedals and a pair of cycling shoes.

    Hope this helps

    Hi there

Add another to the mix - the Specialized Allez Elite 2010.

I have just bought a Secteur Elite which has the same geometry but is set up with a triple front crank ( I am stricken in years and need all the help I can get on the hilly bits)

I am much impressed with the Secteur and I think the Allez has had many good reviews. The outgoing 2010 model is now on offer at between £670 and £790 but the size options may be limited.

    Check out the spec here :- http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDeta ... ctID=21539
  • Thanks

That looks good too. The list grows!!!

I'll seen it for £720 in my size.
  • The Felt. F85
The discount on that is very good, I saw it advertised myself and thought it was a great offer. Its a £1,000 bike.
I was on holidays in the Alps in the summer and hired a road bike for a week and it was this model the rental shop hired out. I thought it was a smashing bike to ride and got quite attached to it. My normal bike is a carbon race bike which cost considerably more and was suprised how good the bike was in comparison. The fact you can get it for £599!!
It looks cool in the flesh as well, cool in understated way and everyone knows Felt are good bikes
  • I bought a 2010 allez elite, cant see how you could buy better to be honest.
  • Out of those suggested, I would be more inclined to go for the Felt.

I like my Trek 1.5 but unless you try them all you can't tell...
    2010 Trek 1.5 Road - swissstop green, conti GP4000S
    2004 Marin Muirwoods Hybrid
  • That's the risk with buying the bikes in the sale I guess - the good sounding deals are never near where you live and the local shops never have anything in stock
