Hi, after reading the forum for a couple of weeks I took the plunge and ordered a Sport 1 yesterday from Decathlon so hopefully it'll be here sometime this week if I'm lucky. I know a few people on here own the same bike so I was wondering if anyone can recommend any upgrades? I'm not really in a rush to spend money but if there are any quick and easy changes that are worth doing it would be good to know.
I'm going to be using it for a 12 mile road commute 4-5 days per week (one way) and possibly some further rides on weekends.

  • Tyres but that is about all. Obviously see how you go comfort wise but contact points particularly the saddle may need to be budgeted for. Incidentally - if you have upgrade plans in mind why not spend more in the first place? If you have your eye on new wheels, groupset etc then put the money away to start saving for your next bike or use it to buy decent bib shorts, gloves and winter gear if you intend to ride over winter. Have fun.
  • Thanks for the reply.
I don't plan on spending a massive amount. I just wanted a fairly cheap bike for now and if I can improve it with any cheap upgrades I don't mind spending a bit on things like tyres. As you said, it's not worth spending a fortune on upgrades and my next big upgrade will be a different bike. If I had spent more now I would have got a good telling off from my girlfriend
  • needs to be considered of course! Just enjoy your new toy.

My first upgrade after a saddle would be tyres.
If your using the bike every day for work good tyres are a must.
Marathon plus tyres are the way to go for your needs. Not the lightest tyre in the world but probably the best puncture protection around.
  • That's very useful. Thanks.
I had my first real ride on it today and the saddle felt pretty good so I'll see how it goes. Puncture resistant tyres are definitely on my list so I'll order a pair of Marathons soon.
