Not seen this before. He really is my favourite rider. Always seems upbeat!

Very good. I missed that as well. Wasn't it was reported at the time? He was actually offered a bike the correct size but turned it down as it had Shimano on it

  • And with toe-straps :) TdF coverage mentioned it a few times during the next days stage.

I'm sure there must have been a spectator there with the French equivalent of a Tesco Value full sus mountain bike, he should have borrowed that

I think the Mavic bikes are Cannondales.

Edit - the story Jens tell is that it was a kids' bike - but it looks exactly like one of the neutral Mavic bikes - and they also have toe clips.

Huh? It's just a Mavic Neutral Service bike, which have toe clips rather than have one of each bike with each pedal system and are obviously a relatively small size.
  • IIt's a mavic neutral service bike.
  • I`m sure they said at the time it was on eof the emergency bikes off the Mavic neutral service car, others commented on it being a CAAD 9. Like Njee said, they have toe-straps because of all the different types of cleats being used in the peloton.

Got him out of bother though until he could get a replacement bike off the top of the Saxobank team car, which was up the road somewhere wet-nursing Schleck !!

it is a child/teenager size bike, the bike was supplied by the tour for a juniors race usng stock bikes before the tour went through (hence why it looks like a mavic service bike because it is - they use painted CAAD9s)

jens bike broke, the option was this or the sag wagon and bowing out of the tour, so he got the team car to leave a replacement Sworks with a gendarme up the road, he rode the little yellow one to the policeman, then chased down the grupetto (where he understandably spent the rest of the stage)

    hardcore!

  • It's glaringly obvious it's a Childs bike! Look at the size of it!
  • No, it`s just that Jens is a big bastard :D My mate looks like that on his Giant OCR.
