As CRC were giving them away it seemed rude not to indulge.

Floats
Crossrides
Racing Ralph DD
Old minis
A few Superstar bit and pieces
And a slightly too long stem

Went out for a blast at the weekend - had forgotten how much fun a hard tail can be.

Comments

  • I like that but get the shorter stem.
  • Yet another fine specimen, mmbops are lovely to look at .

    Nice work mate!
  • Lovely bike but ohhhh

    Holy steerer tube

    Loovvvelllyyy.

I have to agree, stems to long.
  • It's the shortest one I had lying around (100mm I think it is). If I go shorter (which I no doubt will) I'll have to compensate with a layback seat post as the position now feels just right... hmm... decisions...

Looking good. The white hose & cable outer to the rear end set the whole look off really well.

Just finished building up by mmmBop, out for it's first off-road venture on Saturday.
30 miles around the Peak Disctrict - first hardtail ride for 10 years, probably going to shatter my spine in several places until I adapt my riding style :)

I definitely think you'll find a shorter stem is needed though - I currently have a 75mm one fitted and the steering feels a bit slow, so I'm going to try a 50mm (wanted a 60mm but couldn't find one for my budget)
  • Thanks for the insight. Got my eye on a couple of 60mm ones... and some new wheels.

Shorter stem is definitely the way to go. I went from an 80mm stem to a 50mm Thomson. Its a massive improvement for the handling. Surprising really.
  • Nicely done!

I'll echo the sentiments about a shorter stem though. Get on it!
  • CRC have a 60mm raceface ride stem for £22. They have other lengths at similar prices too. Nice hints of gold, I like gold bike components
    FCN 9 - 2008 Kona Cinder Cone
    FCN 9 - Custom Build On-One 456
    FCN 5 - 2010 Boardman Team Carbon
  • Got a 65mm stem on its way... will see how that feels.
  • New, shorter stem now added... went out last night and boy did it feel twitchy! I don't think the Racing Ralphs helped - far too slippery in the mud/wet. Time to switch to some winter tyres me thinks.
