Double Chain and Bash

After a previous post about single speed chainset's I've decided to look into double and bash.
Just wondering if it would work, I have this chainset
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=46021
and i'd like this bash
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=31148
I assume it's just a case of taking the outer ring off and replacing it with the bash guard, is that the case? And would it fit? Thank you

the one thing you need to check is that the biggest ring is held on with bolts (ie that you can un do) and not rivets, as if its rivets then you cant get the big ring off to replace it.
youll need the 32T option (just incase you didnt know, as its in beginners and i might as well go for extra helpful brownie points)
oh and one final thing to check on the crankset you have is how far apart the bolts that hold the chainring on are. thats what the 104mm is referring too on the rockgaurd, and im not sure what the standard is, so i cant promise that itll fit.
however if both parts meet those specs, then yes it is just a cause of unbolting the big ring and bolting on the new guard.0 -

Makes more sense to go for the 36T IMO, that way if you decide that you want a bigger chainring, which most people end up doing, you can still use it. No loss in the meantime.Uncompromising extremist0 -
Brill thanks I'll look at measuring later, been out on a ride today so this is definitely looking like an option, kept smashing my chain set on rocks and raised ground h0

If it was me then I wouldn't go for another square tapper and spend the extra on an External BB Double and Bash

You can have the Turvative Firex 2.2 for £6 extra but if you've got the money then the SLX double at £40 more is still a bargain. The external BB will give you stronger cranks anyway and going for double setup will avoid messing with chainring bolts if not supplied.0 -
I'm not looking at buying anything else, I've already got the crankset, I'm just looking at making my bike look nice and fancy and I never use the 3rd front gear, thats why i want the bash guard0

Make sure the bash ring comes with bolts then as Shimano are little bit narrower0

All right I'll make sure I will, I've heard you need to order sbolts anyway as they don't come with the bash guard, I'll email crc and get them to tell me which bolts I need0

Not a bad bash that, bit heavy for what it is though. It needs loooong bolts, I'm not sure exactly what make mine are but they're too long for any other bashring I've used.Uncompromising extremist0

Yeah chain reaction reckon some raceface ones will do it, failing that the £15 ones, think I'll try the cheaper one's first. And I'm to fussed about the weight, more of a looks thing xD I'm turning into a bit of a poser with my first bike build :twisted:0

If you're only putting it on for looks then anything with a 4 bolt fixing will fit, it you're fitting it because you're hitting the big ring against things it would make a lot more sense to buy an octalink, isis or as suggested above an external BB crank, otherwise you'll end up snapping your BBI had to beat them to death with their own shoes...

Yeah the way it's looking it's just a vanity thing, I don't use the 3rd ring so I thought I might as well add something I like the look of and make my build look nice. And the way it's looking I've only caught the 3rd ring a few times so I'll see how it goes really.0

I bought the bash guard, check out link below and bottom of page is a pic of it I think it looks pretty cool0
