Can anyone recommend a good road bike maintenance book. I like the sounds of both Lennard Zinn and the Big blue bike book.

The Zinn book is immense! It's my bible, along with the videos on biketutor.com.

I picked the Zinn book up in pretty much first-hand condition for £3 delivered from Amazon marketplace.
  • Most people will recommend Zinn, I've found the book below to be very easy to understand and well laid out -

Zinn's alright if you can get it cheaply.

I think the Park Tools website and Sheldon Brown websites are best though. Park Tools is updated regularly and covers pretty much everything on modern bikes; Sheldon Brown covers vintage and older bikes and has loads of tricks and tips and is generally a pleasure to read.

Don't get the Haynes book, it's rubbish. Too simple for anyone who can hold a spanner, but too complicated for anyone that doesn't know what a spanner is.

I have to say that I use the internet mostly. Sheldon Brown for the concepts and then youtube for the demonstrations. I especially like some of the Youtube videos on how to fix things as you can watch and copy.

I even managed to fix the motor on my washing machine using that technique 8)

In Halfords earlier on for something and spied a Haynes Manual on bike maintenace. Only had a brief glimpse but it seemed to cover most bases, and being a Haynes book is probably quite thorough. £14.99 cover price.
  • I've got the big blue book and it's pretty good. Much more comprehensive than most I've found, although it does assume you have some idea what you're doing.

I haven't seen any of the others and it is quite expensive...

Thanks to this thread I just picked up one of these

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listin ... ition=used

2.75 delivered. I was expecting a tatty used copy, which would have been ok, but what arrived was brand new :D They still seem to have them at that price..

I suspect it is not the absolutely latest edition so maybe they are shifting old stock, but mine is published 2005 and I doubt much has changed since.
