  • I'd stick with fixed guards, so you want brakes with long reach calipers, and eyelets just above the QR skewers. Can't find any high resolution pictures online.
    Say... That's a nice bike..

  • Just tried to fit crudcatcher mark 2 gurads to nine and there was not quite enough clearance to make them usable. They cleared the tyre but were fouled by every price if grit the tyre picked up!
Boardman AIR 9.8, Zipp 303 Clinchers, SRAM red groupset.
  • yeah thought a gimmick. Best to look for a bike with proper clearence, had to buy a buy a bike just for wet weather.

^ yeah, right err, ditch the bike 'cos it doesn't take mudguards??

If you have a 4-5mm gap between the top of the tyre and the brake caliper, you can fit Cruds, otherwise its RaceBlades - not quite the same coverage, but better than nothing.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Had Raceblades, they're crap. Took about 1 hour to fix- as soon as I test it, work a bit loose and have to start again, and after a few miles start working loose and then rubs against tyres. Stop by the road, 20 minutes and arrgh start rubbing again.

Don't mean ditch it...buy another bike heh :-) That's why I have two, fast road bike for summer rides, and tourer with long reach calipers so space for proper fixed full length guards for all round bike if the weather looks dodgy (or if I'm out all day unsure how it'll be on the way back)

Seems another person wasen't impressed with crud catchers either.

+1 for Rce Blades being poor, better than nothing but not great, cruds better and the MKII seem even better from what people are saying. Re tight fitting at the base of the seat tube, I've seen a suggestion on here for trimming away some of the guard where the tyre runs closest to the seat tube. Might be possible to have the guard run forwrd over the rear wheel, down towards where the front mech is, then the guard is cut, and then a section is attached from the chainstay bridge up the seat tube. I haven't seen the MKIIs but my Spec Allez runs the MKIIs and I've damaged bits of these and fancy running this bike through the winter and the extra coverage of the new ones appeals to me.
