best winter riding shoes spd

im thinking ahead about what kind of riding shoes im going to need in winter. my current spd shoes really let the water in and tend to stay wet for days after a ride. i cant remember what they are but there from the cheaper end of the shimano range.

now do i need some of those winter boot things or just more weather capable normal type spd shoes

and i really dont like overshoes so id like to avoid them if possible
