Chain Sizing

Hi guys
Currently building up a Ragley Mmmbop and I think I may have sized up the chain wrong. I had a good look at various guides including park but still think I may have got confused and done it wrong.
I placed the chain around the largest front chainring and the largest rear sprocket. then pulled the chain tight, noted the closest link at which it would be possible to join.
Then I added two extra links, I.e lengthend by two extra links. Is that correct or should I have shortened by two extra links??
Thanks in advance
