What brake blocks do you recommend?

I've got an old Giant Rincon with road tyres which I use for commutes (upto 20 miles each way) and the school run with a TrailGator on the back. It's got V brakes. The brake blocks are nearing the end of their natural life.
There's a bewildering range of replacement blocks, including 'dual compound', whatever that is. Can anyone recommend a set that will stop a rider who occasionally rides too fast and often rides in the wet?

I bought these last time - 4 pairs for £7.50. Plenty stopping power. Seem to work fine in mud and wet, but don't ride on the road much.
Cartridge though. Although they do sell them including holders as well. And in black.
