Interesting stage today - not as much a sprinters' finish as it may seem at first sight. Exactly the same run in as in 2008 - top 3 back then? 1. Bettini, 2. Gilbert, 3. Valverde.... (http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/200 ... /vuelta086)

Cavendish could be able to hold on in there, and if he wants to make an impact on this year's world champs he should, but we'll see...

For the moment FLORENCIO Xavier (005), ORTEGA OCANA Manuel (026), JUFRE POU Josep (038) y ROELS Dominik (194) with 2 minutes, just under 30 km to go. Liquigas, Footon, Katusha and Omega Pharma working

Hmm, I think a lot of people didn't study the profile for this one

I did. Over and over. Which is why I'll take those 10 PTP points for today, thanks!

Mosquera might have lost some time there.

Gilbert shows why he's a big favourite for the World's today.

    Well done :!:
  • So, how much time did Nibs take out of Mosquera?

Gilbert takes it - starting sprinting from 400 meter out! Farrar finding his form uphill, 2nd - Pozzato 3

12 seconds at least. Maybe more.

Farrar gets the points jersey too?

Farrar did well to get second on that uphill finish.

Farrar is a bit further back than I thought in the points classification. I think Cav still has it by 12 pts.

You wonder if he's not peaking too soon. Plus he'll be heavily marked on the day but yes, certainly THE favourite.

That could be the top 3 at the Worlds.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.
  • Nibs
    Mosquera @ 50" (losing that 12")
Where is Frank Schleck? Currently shown as out of the GC top 10.
He had a flat inside the final 3kms.

Oh and Yay! Brit Eurosport HD save the day! (tomorrow, that is. )

I guess they haven't sussed that his flat was inside the final 3km then. Assuming it WAS a flat and not something else.

How are they going to work out what time to give him when there are splits all over the place? That rule is slightly dodgy on finishes like that.

Man, I changed my pick from Farrar to Cav as Farrar looked pooped yesterday. Stick with the gut son, stick with the gut :(

Is it anything to do with where you were riding when you had the mechanical? So if he was at the front - he gets the front time, etc?

But yes - difficult to work out. For instance - is it fair if he doesn't lose time on Nibali, but Mosquera does, etc?
  • The La Vuelta site has no sign of Roche, either.
    They have Seb Hinault 4th.

Biggest loser showing, so far, is Tommy Danielson, who dropped 20 seconds to Nibali.

Hopefully, any absences will be down to mechanicals.
What time they get, or how they work it out, I know not.

Yes, it's the time of the group you were in at the time of the mechanical - but if you're in between Nibali and Mosquera... how does that work?

Right, I have all the answers.
Roche has now been added, finishing first in a newly added 9 second group.
Schleck has been given at 15 seconds, although he finished well over 100th.

I was in a mild panic here wondering what had happened to Roche and Schleck. Can't wait for tomorrow now....!

Official website still has their GC times wrong. But at least they are now on there!
  • Oooooooooooh yes. Gilbert is so good. Super strong end of season just like last year. Defnitely more wins coming for him.

Ha! This is the last 3km profile from the Vuelta official site - think they may have mixed up with yesterday's stage

    17uk.gif

I managed to change my pick from Farrar to Pozzato so not too disastrous, but I wished I could just leave well alone once I've made a pick.

Yup - that's a duplication of the profile from the day before. The KM to KM description shows the true uphill nature of the finish today. (It lists changes in elevation and distances to the finish, etc).
  • Stage 6 2008, same finish. Gilbert up there.
