How does a wool base layer get in the summer? If it's the same as the traditional base layers. I don't think I'll get an Helly Hansen-style base layer ever again.
P.S. I'll be start a blog to review some of the cycling stuff I've bought.
The icebreaker stuff is really good, arguably the best out there imo but it's still Rapha priced unless there is a sale on. Also, not all stockists carry the range. i have both makes. They don't smell in summer - that's the selling point. After a certain temp they get too warm for me but for about 3 seasons they really work and you can wear one for prob 3 rides before you need to start thinking about laundry.M.Rushton0 -
Endura merino base layers are great, good value, excellent fit, very comfortable.
Orca merino baselayers are superb, but a little costly.
Apparently the Craft stuff is very good too, I shall be trying them out with my next purchase.Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

Good luck.
Thouroughly recommend merino base layers :P
As several others have pointed out the ones that were recently available in Aldi were 30% merino jerseys, not base layers.
I do recall however that they had some 100% merino base layers just after christmas this year which were also around the £15 mark. They didn't have my size so I never got to try one out but it may be worth keeping an eye out for them over the next few months.
PPPeople that make generalisations are all morons.

Well i bought the Aldi top as seemed good for the bike and a decent dog walking top under my coat that would breath a bit and look not too mamil in the process0

Ive got to put in a plug for chocolatefishmerino.co.uk.
I have 4 of the Tarenaki merino base layer T shirts and they are really good.
Ive had one pair for about 3 years and they are durable, easy to wash and do everything that merino baselayers should.
Note that you dont need pockets, zips or any cycling features on a winter base layer.
I recently took some on a 2 month tour and never touched my synthetic top.0 -
Hey, nobody seems to have mentioned silk.
The warmest, non smelling, sexy underwear/base layer you will ever own.
I used to ice climb and spent days in the same clothes. Available in all good porn shops...
whoops, ment to say outdoor shops.
So will that be the end of it!!0 -
Endura BaaBaa base layers are great. Managed to use mine playing football last night and it did the trick. Looking forward to using it through winter. Good value at £35ish (got mine from Chain Reaction Cycles).0
