ok just sold a focus cayo frameset and a trek tri bike, also considering selling the cross bike / commuter.

my riding is normally commuting 1-1.5 hrs a day, some 1-2hour traign rides and the odd longer ride at weekends during th winter, a few triathlons and some local tt's in the summer. If the cross bike goes i have the luxury of an allez (wifes) to cummute on in the poorer weather.

I have a full 6600 ultegra group, wheels d finishing kit form the focus. i am trying ot decide between going titanium van nich euros or planet x offerings, and sellign the cross bike to get a new tri bike for the season. anoth option here is a cervelo s1 and use it for both purposes. these would use e old grouposet etc

the other option just caught my eye is the planet x red deal for 1099 and then a cheap tri frame for the season to utilise existing parts prob a ribble offering. i am also drawn to a caad9 or the new caad10

anyexperiences of any of these woudl be great, is the s1 a really harsh ride, is titanium all its said to be re comfort, is the planet x a no brainer for the sram red kit or does it get out shone by the boardman back to 999 and is the legendary caad9 topping them all?

many thanks if u made it this far

The answer is that they are all great bikes for the money. My sig shows where my money went and this came down to frame stiffness/quality and spec of components.

The S1 was my second choice but would have needed a bigger budget for the Ultegra spec. The bling factor of the S1 was off the scale.

The Planet X Red is only red mechs. The Red cassette (a thing of beauty) is £180 on its own. The full Red PX is a better bet, if you have the budget and want a PX.

I'm happy I made the right choice but its so competitive at this price, with so much good kit, there isn't really a wrong choice.

The caad9 didn't do it for me but if I had the extra money, the Carbon Six would have been my first choice.

  • Ive owned the planet x, cervelo and spent lots of time on the boardman pro carbon.

The planet x is good but i found it quite a relaxed ride.

The cervelo and boardman i found very similar, i was torn between the 2 but in the end i went cervelo as there is a lifetime garuntee on the frame and i love it.

The only down side is that the paint chips easily but on the plus side this means i can get it re sprayed to the latest colours.

I would take the boardman and cervelo over the planet x
