I have a 09 Giant FCR 4 which has done approx 4,000 mile in the last year. It has a FSA Vero triple crank set and I use the middle chain ring pretty much all of the time. As a result it pretty much shot and the chain bounces/slips off it all the time. Now I've done a internet search of most of the big internet suppliers (Wiggle, CRC, et al) to see if I can get a like for like replacement. So for I have been unable to find one. Can any body suggest a suitable replacement for a middle chain ring 42T at 130BCD?

Thanks in advance.

i think fsa vero is only sold as an oem part

try giving http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/ a call, they can suggest a suitable ring

if you don't think you can change the middle-ring habit, go for a steel ring instead of an aluminium one, it should last longer

tbh 4000 miles doesn't seem much for a chainring, if you look fron the side, can you see light between the chain and the bottom of the teeth? that's one sign of significant wear, as is pointy tips to the teeth

if the chain is badly worn you should probably replace it at the same time, but then the cassete is likely to need replacing as well (worn chains wear out cassettes)

you can read how to measure chain wear here...

...scroll down to "Measuring Chain Wear"

swapping chains before they wear too far will prolong the life of the more expensive bits

My Daughter has a middle chainring, 130mm PCD, 42T on a truvative crankset, so guess they must be available from somwhere! While the crank arms are OE, that shouldn't be the case with the chainwheels!

Wiggle quote three shimano options, this is the cheapest (Tiagra) http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Shima ... 300002673/
