My screen has started to go white randomly, upon start up, then once you finally get onto the desktop it goes again randomly - you have to restart or put it to sleep and hope it stops for a while, which it does sometimes, but not completely! :x
All I want to know, is it the actual laptop hardware going wrong, or the screen? As the screen is under warranty anyway, getting replaced soon because of a small crack. (Could it be the crack causing this..?)
Dell 1545 running on Vista.
EDIT: Just did it again, had to put it to sleep and wait 5 mins.
Cheers

Does it stay on when the screen is moved? If the screen is solid white it usuallly means you're getting backlight only (no video). Could be screen or cable? If the crack on the screen was caused by you i doubt it will be covered under warranty as it will be classed as physical damage (used to do warranty work for Sony).Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

do you have an extra monitor which you can connect to it to check if it happen again?"It is not impossible, its just improbable"

Yep stays when the screen is moved and I've checked all the cables were plugged in securely, all ok there. The laptop itself works fine so i'm thinking it's the screen... And the crack was caused by my 3yr old brother while I was at racing  But this is a repacement screen, so i'm alreay on the 2nd - it has a 1 year warraty so hoping it can be replaced...0

Another one to suggest the external monitor option assuming you have outputs on the laptop and access to a monitor. I killed my laptop with a dribble of tea which then went onto the GPU chip. Cost to replace wold have been £150+, a new PC was £200.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

So it happened on an external screen also? Have you tired new/old drivers for your Graphics card?0

No sorry, the external screen turns on, just the screen is nackered (completely different issue, happened a few months back). Basically when I plug in the external screen it detects it and switches to dual view, this seems to improve it. The white screen usually appears JUST as you click on a programme/internet tab/button etc.0

Can you try and use the external display only, instead of dual view?0
