Hi,

I'm new to this cycling stuff and have only been riding on a road racing bike this year, and need to upgrade from the Aldi gear jersey and shorts and notice the price of say a sky team shirt are over £60, bibs are even more, not wanting to pay £130 for the set I noticed ebay set for under £30 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sky-Team-Short-Sleeve-Jersey-Short-Size-S-XXXL-New-/250694966935?pt=UK_Cycling_Clothing&var=&hash=item800f61039e

So it's from china and a replica, so what? has anyone bought this gear online and is it any good? Thoughts please peoples?

Steve

  • I bought from lightinthebox.com (in China) and it was fine. Sizing can be a bit on the small size so beware of that. You could try chainreactioncycles.com for kit - prices OK if you stay away from team kit. Some cracking non-team designs. Also Wiggle and Evans though haven't bought from them. Good luck. BTW, what's wrong with your Aldi stuff?

    cheers,
Yes I've see the wiggles and such... nothing wrong with Aldi BTW...it's just now and then you like to dress up for the big rides...
  • I bought a Mellow Johnny's jersey and bib short from China from e-bay, both in white which with hindsight was a mistake, I think I'd be arrested if I wore the shorts outside.

Fit was good though and the jersey's fine.
  • i bought a jersey of ebay from china . the zip failed after a couple of rides . i wouldnt bother .
  • I've had some bits of kit and in general they've been very good (although delivery can be a bit slow)

i saw someone else had bought form light in the box and I think these are pretty good. take a size larger than normal though and don't think you'll be sending it back if it doesn't fit or your unhappy.

This is the downside of copied stuff, it's cheap but there's no such thing as returns

Maybe some don't do returns but to be fair to them lightinthebox do - sent back jersey as the sizing (like I said) was small. All done without fuss.

My problem, and maybe I'm old fashioned, is that you are effectively encouraging copyright theft. I know there is an argument that the legit items are too expensive, however you don't have to buy them. The fact that the clothing is likely to be of inferior quality would also be a factor for me.
  • I bought a Caisse d'epagne replica kit from China, both bib shorts and jersey - they accidently sent me two by mistake!!

I paid £32 delivered and whilst blatantly not the real deal couldn't really fault it - I've done getting on for 1,000 mile in at and no complaints. Yes it probably wont last as long as Assos or similar but then again - I could probably buy another 4 for the price!

Delivery took a while, but only what was stated - 3 weeks in total. Would definitely buy again!

Had a look - not bad. Needs to work on the cm to ft inches conversion though

  • I'm currently going through the motions of getting my money back from buying from a seller in China, they took my money but no item has arrived (bought on the 24/8) so be careful who you order with.

The seller I bought from was called "ocelotor" and had good feedback from what I saw. When you look at the feedback, try and see if the locations of the feedback given is from legit sounding places, as my seller has some from Hong Kong and the like.

I brought a RadioShack jersey from 'ocelotor'. Took two weeks delivery...nice item though, great value.

Communication is so crap its unbelievable....but to be fair my chinese is even worse!
  • thanks for the advice guys...

I'll choose carefully maybe just buy shirt first... on the other hand Aldi kit will do for now...

Don't bother; they're cheap for a reason. I bought a Trek set a while back, which was so see-through it was like riding in the buff. It also ran even on a cool wash. The material is cheap and nasty and the garments won't last anywhere near as long as decent kit.

Put simply; you get what you pay for.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
