Novice Route in East Devon

Hi guys,
Hope this post is ok in this forum, I'm new to the road side of BR! I'm heading out for a ride with a couple of mates in East Devon tomorrow and wondered if anyone had any ideas for possible routes?
We're relatively fit, but fairly novice roadies, so want to avoid too many big hills and exposed windy bits if possible. We initially thought of a sort-of coast to coast between Barnstaple and Exeter, but realise that might be a bit of a tough one, or something along the coast around the Exmouth area with some good views and the odd tea and cake stop along the way. Basically much more of a social ride than a heads-down training ride
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated
