Seatpost Fail

Well I am more than pissed of right now!
Was just carrying a box of bike bits across the bedroom, when my new seatpost fell out and just caught the edge of my laptop which was on the floor. Thought nothing of it, then just opened up the laptop and its only gone and cracked the f*cking screen hasn't it!!!!!
Laptop is out of warranty, and I have no money to buy a new one or get the screen repaired (and my mother does not seem to keen about claiming on the house insurance). I mean yeah it works, but having a stupid flipping crack that makes all your pixels for dodgy everytime you move your laptop is fecking annoying.
Damn bikes, cause more damage to me than anything else!!!

This is so true.0 -
If you can find a spare screen on Ebay, it's *probably* pretty easy and relatively cheap to fix.0
-
As above.
Punch model no into ebay and check prices on screens & do it yourself.0 -
I had not thought about that option, I have never really had anything to with electrical items so would be a bit sceptical about taking it apart and trying to fix it myself.
How "easy" would a new screen be to fit?
Looks like a new screen off ebay would be about £70 anyway, which is £70 I don't at the moment (damn student lifestyle!).0 -
Generally, they just require taking out a few screws, removing the connector which attaches the old screen and replacing it with a new one. As you're a student, I guarantee there will be someone close to you who will be willing to do it for a couple of pints if you don't want to do it yourself. Finding the money for it will be the hardest part...
Unless it's a Sony Vaio. Then you're screwed.0 -
Sony Vaio screens are just as easy to replace as any other laptop. You will need tiny, tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny screwdrivers, and possibly even smaller torx bits though.
And patience.0 -
Yeah, I think I could probably give it a go myself, I'm usually quite good with stuff like this, just never had to do anything similar before. Its not a sony, its a HP so I'm not sure if they are any easier or harder than others?
Like you said, its just getting the money that's the hardest part. I might just have to live with a broken screen for now, then plead to the parents/grandparents that I need a full working laptop for when I go back to uni0 -

Not sure which side of Northampton you are, but there's a place along the Welly road here in Rushden that have a board outside simply saying "laptop screens replaced".
I'll see if there is a number or website on there on the way home.Northwind wrote: It's like I covered it in superglue and rode it through ebay.0 -

I'm pretty much in town centre, so quite a distance from me. And I'm moving back down to Bournemouth on Saturday, so wouldn't be of much help anyway. If they do have a website though let me know, would be nice to see how much they charge etc...0
