That is an absolutely outrageous comment, anything which involves the arse within the Roman Catholic Church is for the purposes of penance, lubrication would distract from the Act of Contrition.
  • A paprazzi manages to smuggle his way in to the vatican and hides in the Papal toilet. Totally unsure of his next move the door creaks open and he dives for cover behind the toilet.

The Pope himself walks in, disrobes and jumps in the shower. It's been a stressful day and he decides to masterbate. The paprazzi is mortified until he see's the opportunity to make some money. He starts snapping away, the Pope totally oblivious. Just as he's reaching Papal climax he notices the Paparazzi and covers up straight away.

The Pope pleads with the Paparazzi to give him the camera. The photos could destroy the Catholic church. The Paparazzi offers to sell it and they eventually agree 2 million euros.

Later on, the Pope is walking down the hallway when an aide says, "That's a lovely camera, your holiness".

"It should be, it cost me 2 million euros", the Pope replied.

"2 million euros???? Somebody saw you coming!!!!".

I assume some on here as a young boy in Austria during the Third Reich would have said "actually Heinrich I think your youth organisation and all it stands for is despicable so actually I'd rather not join"? Keeping quiet on the knowledge of abuse is something else altogether and indefensible but is hardly the preserve of the catholic church. It went on in all institutions that had access to and power over kids.

So because other organisations had this problem too it's not so bad? It's not just that it has happened within the Catholic church it's how they've dealt with it...or not as the case may be.

Oh I agree, he would not had the opportunity to say no to being in the Hitler youth, but to then become Pope ? Wrong wrong wrong. He should never have been in the running to be the spiritual leader of one fifth of the planet in the first instance. I hate the hypocrisy of the catholic church, fcuk the Vatican and all it stands for.

Did you deliberately miss the bit in bold when you read my comment? I've only ever known good priests but as a little kid could easily have encountered one of those that were moved on by those at the top (including the current pope) who felt that the route of burying their heads in the sand and hoping they could avoid a scandal was a good policy so I don't really need lecturing on the subject!

The Hypocrisy of the catholic church is staggering. Abuse has gone on in other institutions, but the abuse in the church was committed by men who had chosen God over anything else and thats unforgivable, but hey its ok, the Cardinals and the others will cover it up for years, Then they can go to confession, get it off their chests and not go to hell, consience cleared.

Apart from the fact of thousands of damaged children who were systematically abused by men who hid behind their commitment to God and the catholic church.

I was in Angola for 5 months in 1995, attached to the UN. Some high ranking Catholic priests came out for a visit round the camps and townships to see how their flock were doing. Kids on the edge of malnutriton were spoken to by men with ruby rings on their fingers about aid. The aid that was promised came along shortly after, some nice pics of the pope and books of catechisms. Nice. the UNICEF and WHO officials were staggered.

Again, the same could be argued with pretty much any other organisation dealing with aid. Multi millionaire pop stars and other celebs who turn up on first class flights wearing clothes that cost enough to feed a village for a month or certain Irish rock stars who fly around in private jets and lecture on poverty. Not trying to defend anything here as I agree with much of what you say and I would also say the church owe the millions of Africans who follow their teachings to get into the real world and accept that barrier protection is necessary to prevent the spread of Aids but some organisations are far more easily attacked than others. UNICEF and the WHO officials may well hav been staggered but how much do these charities pay to their CEOs? I suspect it is more than the value of a few ruby rings.
  • He's due past my work in the next hour or so. Just went out to get cash before it got too busy and it's pretty busy. I'd say that 90% of the people are protestors though. Mainly gay rights.

just went down to the staff room for a snack (commuting in this weather is making me hungrier than normal!) and someone's put a big telly on, showing the Pope's visit live !

Oh well, it's better than crappy football, which is the only other time we're 'allowed' to switch it on. I'm tempted to try and get the Tour of Britain on instead !

What is it with the 'PopeMobile' car he travels round in ?

Now it's a freaky looking Merc - used to be a RangeRover back in the 80's. Just think, if you put a few hooks up inside the roof, you could hang about 5 bikes in there. It'd make an ideal bike wagon for me and my mates...maybe I'll try and meet the Pope and ask if I can have the Merc once he's gone. I'll get him to bless my XTR while I'm there...

there was a time when all young Irish boys aspired to a future at church school and entering the priesthood - now its the other way around !

The difference is, that the Catholic church is a religion, a faith a way of life not just an institution. Yeah, CEO's of charity get paid, but the church is far more ruthless and closed to change.
The spread of Aids in Sub-saharan Africa can indirectly be attributed to the Catholic church's stance on contraception, as well as the population increase.
Gay rights don't exist in the church.
Womens rights are severely behind the tmes.
Systematic abuse of children by men women has been covered up for years.
The magdalene laundrys were no more than abusive slave labour for youn Irish girls.

You cannot compare charitable organisations like UNICEF, WHo and maybe OXFAM to the catholic Church, it is insulting and contradictive to these organisations.
No more from me, off to mass.

"The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie, who was his own father can make you live for ever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree…. Yeah, makes perfect sense"

And the taxpayer has spent £15M so that he can tell us that................ Really ?!!?

I heard that Tom Cruise is doing a 4 day tour next year promoting Scientology........

"One belief of Scientology is that a human is an immortal alien spiritual being, termed a thetan, that is trapped on planet Earth in a physical body." apologies for the shameless quoting of Wiki

Sounds familiar doesn't it !? and this was conjured up by science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard.

FFS !! And these people consider themselves rational, intelligent human beings !!!
Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved

Well, if those very same taxpayers would refrain from climbing over themselves to get closer to him, in adoration or hatred, it wouldn’t cost them £15m.
