  • Some more pics? heh!

I hit the Chase [Cannock] today with my better half on her Trek 4300. We went on the Blue route [12.5 miles] to get her used to MTBing - she did really well!

The Spec was awesome - enough said.

Cant wait to go back on my own to do the Red Route [Follow The Dog].

nice pics :) i do like these bikes and the colour scheme is pretty good too :)
  • The Type R is a tardis. I can get 2 x bikes i with the seats down. However the bodywork is so lightweight I cannot use a rear mounted bike rack :(

I did the Follow The Dog trail at Cannock Chase today.

I am surprised at how well the Spec repels the brown stuff!

I was at Cannock on Sunday, if you saw a black FSR XC fly past then it was me :)
  • Nice one - There were a lot of nice Specs up there!
  • Ooooh I love a dirty bike. That looks lovely when dirty!
  • Cannock Chase again!

  • Your the first person I' ve found who has bought one of these, I can't believe I am the only one really dissapointed with this bike, It was a load of shit!! I bought mine in April 2009 and it's known as triggers bike!
There is not a lot original bits left on it, everything pretty much failed, Wheels were just a joke, I spent £200.00 plus trueing them in the fist year, got so fed up I bought some Pro 2's with ex500 rims, these are sweet, so much stronger and reliable. All the bearings went within 6 months, crank was wobbly and stiff, headset was as rough as a badgers ass all within months. I did buy from Total Fitness Bath and they were shocking, front wheel was supplied 1/8th inch off centre, the way they set the bike up was probably the cause of all the problems, Specialized Concept in Bristol were brilliant especially in the first year sorting out the front wheel and also replacing the freehub 3 times. Still cost me £200+ in trueing!
I am still running this thing but with upgrades that has cost almost what I paid for it, Raceface evolve XC crankset, Hope BB, Chris King Headset, Pro 2's with ex500 rims, new rear cassette, chain, handelbars (Monkey Hi Rise), Shortened Raceface Stem and it is running sweeeeeeet.
After 2 years the brakes are starting to cause problems, The Avid Juicy 4's are bloody good stoppers but not that good quality and I think they will be changed soon.

Anyway, thats my moan, Anyone else out there had my experience with this bike?
I was a bit nieve when buying my first bike and went for something that looked nice
Shan't be using that as the main reason for purchase next time!! :?

Thats a shame, I striped it down and sold it not long after. I didnt have any problems with it, and it was a nice fast XC bike.

i have one of these! i've upgraded mine with maxxis advantages, wider bars and thicker grips (im 6ft2 with rugby player's shoulders - the bars were thinner than my natural reach) and apart from replacing chains, brake pads etc it's performed faultlessly.

squires - are you really surprised you bought a mountain bike from a gym / fitness shop and had issues with it? the wheel issue could have been solved with replacing the spoke nipples, when i spoke to my LBS it's a very common problem with specializeds.

it is quite odd that these are as rare as hen's teeth but then the 2010 model is everywhere.

Stock wheels are usually pretty poor. I've taco'd the front on both of my Specialized bikes, the Enduro SL front wheel went on the first ride.

I've changed everything on my FSRxc, apart from the frame and left shifter. I now use it for XC racing and it does that very well. I use it with Mavic Cross Ride wheels for training and Roval Controle SL's for racing.
