In his forthcoming book, titled "Two sides of the medal" and made available to the German Press agency dpa ahead of publication on Thursday, Koehler said that East German officials decided to give their top athletes, including minors, doping substances from the early 1970s onwards because other countries were also cheating.
"If East Germany wanted to remain competitive it had no choice but to allow the use of doping substances," Koehler said.0 -
Surely this is up there with tales of catholicism associated with the Pope?0

As someone once said (well, kinda) "I'm sorry for you. I’m sorry that you can’t dream big. I'm sorry you don't believe in moustachioed, be-willied women winning the 800m "'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0

Yep, about as surprising as the steaming pile ursine faeces I found while riding through the woods last week.0 -
Jokes aside, this has been admitted for quite some time. Werner Franke has done a lot here to shed light on the practices.0

MG: you're not drawing conclusions without the full evidence in front of you, are you
Anyway it's not the first admission. UK rowing coach Jurgen Grobler admitted over a decade ago to drug use in the East German system and many others have said similar things.0 -
This is a frankly alarming documentary from the "Secrets Of The Dead" series.
It's talking about the systematic doping in East Germany of boys and girls as young as ten years of age.....!

She on the left, who is now him on the right, appeared in a Spiegel documentary many years ago. I wonder if she had ever taken any banned substances.
