My Diadora's are comfortably tight. As you get them online without trying on before hand, I'd wager the shoes are fitted a size too small. What do they feel like when you're wearing them, but you're not on the bike? Is there space to wiggle your toes?
  • at first they feel ok maybe a bit tight on the right foot its bout a hour on the bike it starts to hurt by the time am back big toe hurts rest of night its stoping me coz get to bout 25miles and av to turn back then its pain all way home lol

That's not good - it sounds like the toe box is too small for your foot. It's a vicious circle - as it's tight to begin with, the foot swells. As it swells, the fit becomes even tighter, and it swells more.

If you want to be cheeky, head to a cycle shop and try numerous shoes on until you find you're happy with a pair. Note the size and buy it online for cheaper. If you feel guilty, buy something from the shop like some arm warmers, gloves etc.

I had a pair of Diadoras and simply couldn't get on with them because of the shape of the toe box. My feet aren't particularly wide (for example Puma football boots used to swamp me because of their wide fitting), but the Diadoras really nipped once I'd warmed up.

I've graduated to Specialized Pro BG (nice wide toe box) and when these wear out, I'll buy the same or Specialized's latest equivalent.

Good luck finding something that fits. And don't be frightened to punctuate - some will refuse to respond to poorly written posts even if they know the answer.

I have Diadora Team Racer's at the moment, and they're snug, but not too tight.

The Specialized BG are waxed lyrical about. I've been told that the next time I buy shoes, definitely try out the Spesh BG's, but more importantly definitely buy a carbon sole as they make a big difference flex-wise.
  • thanks guys goin to try some on this afternoon

Suffered the same recently.I find your replies interesting but my angle was to think that these also sound like gout symptoms ..I set up my own thread on it..wonderring if it could be relkated to my diet drinks etc..I hope my problem is only a question of shoe sizing also..

Gout? That's an interesting take on the situation... wouldn't the pain occur despite cycling? I'll add that my left big toe is arthritic (football break) so any shoe that isn't a good design up top will grief me without much encouragement.

I can't recommend the Spesh BG shoes highly enough. Particularly the Pro ones with the carbon sole for added stiffness.

    But we're all different.

I picked up some Mavic Razor shoes yesterday, got them a size smaller than I'd normally buy as I wanted them reallyl snug, they are not comfy at all at the moment but I'm sure they'll stretch a bit. I guess it's like getting used to a new saddle. My big toes seem to be taking the brunt of it too.

Fell off last night with them on in front of an open hairdressers, very funny, I knew going clipless would hurt, didn't expect quite so much blood though! I clipped out my left shoe and fell the other way, DOH!

    Are they made from leather?

I don't think they are, some leather looking bits, probably faux. Rode 54 miles with them today, I was glad to get them off! They have stretched a bit, another 45 tomorrow and fingers crossed they'll be good. This clipless thang is all new to me, didn't realise they'd mean quite so much more acceleration, which is nice :D Just need to develop the new muscles I can now employ.

I hope they stretch enough for you, because man-made materials don't tend to 'give'... don't fuck up our toes!

  • I've 4 pairs of cycling shoes. My normal shoe size is 41.

1 pair is size 41 and fits nicely.
3 pairs are size 42 - All off these fit nice and snuggly despite being one size up.

The sized 42's (dhb and Time shoes) were advised to go one size up as the manufacturer makes them small sized. There's no way I could pedal in tight shoes.

Tried some at my normal size, had to take them back as my feet were slipping in them. Really wanted to get some to properly clamp my feet to the bike as I figure this is the idea for efficiency, these ones do that but I do hope they stretch a bit more, especially as they cost me £90, overall I'm happy with them. A few more miles will tell, learning to pedal again is a bit odd though! :)

Wonder if you were the guy I spoke to in Aldi Camberley today! Mostly likely toe pain is a common issue but you never know.

Never seen so many cyclists in one shop, it was like a scramble for what was left over. Picked up some gloves and a winter jersey, seems like good quality gear for the price.
  • well got a pair of speciallzed bg sports got a size bigger than my shoe size fit mint ad a spin for a hour no pain felt good thanks for help guys
