Toe clip straps shredded!

They snapped today on only their second outing! Nylon ones off ebay so not exactly expensive gear. Is this common or have I not fitted them right??

I've never used the ones that came with my trek. No idea what they're worth if you want them?
I went straight to SPD-SLs instead.

I had some fraying on my straps until I put a twist in the strap where it goes underneath the pedal.. Moves about less so less friction.0

The straps on my wife's pedals have become very frayed recently which was puzzling...and then I caught one of my daughters' rabbits nibbling them whilst I had my back turned, grrrr.
I guess that's not much use if you haven't got any of the cute critters.0 -
You used to be able to get buttons for the end of toestraps though this was so you could get a better pull on the strap and not to stop it fraying as they were meant for leather straps. If this happens with nylon straps then a cheapskate way to cure it is to melt the end with a lighter.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
