Any recommendations for a new seatpost? LBS has recommended ones with dual bolt fittings, he mainly is MTB so had this one. What are differences between MTB and road seatposts. Saddle is Brooks Team Pro. (and indeed stems)

Seat positions on mtb and road are completely different. Majority of mtb seatposts have little or no setback, as shown by the post you were offered. Most road seatposts have some setback - typically between 20 and 25mm - to enable you to achieve a comfortable position on a road frame.

I'd imagine MTB components are a bit stronger so for a given price point the components would be heavier and maybe more stiffer so the seat post may not be as comfortable?0

setback is not unique to road use, any more than no setback is unique to offroad use - and most mfgrs will offer both options on many of their seatposts anyway. Apart from a few high end road posts, there are practically no differences (apart from the graphics on some posts) which identify seatposts as being suited for either road or off road, so just buy a seatpost that works for you...0 -
I'd recommend this seat post:

Its designed as Road or light use MTB seat post. I use it on my MTB and its very nice.0 -

I didn't say setback was unique to road use, just that the majority of posts found on road bikes tend to have some setback as the frame angles differ from mtb.
