Hello all, a lad in work will sell me his xc expert 09 bike for £500, ive had a quick look on bike radar and a few people have said about rear hub and headset problems and not the best wheels, ( he has'nt had any problems with the bike) i think the bikes a steal at the price he's asking, would it be worth getting and upgrading the parts when needed, any advice appreciated

thanks in advance redmen

bargain. offer him 450 - he's obviously stupid.

TBH headsets are consumables anyway, and depending on which one it is (a cane creek S3 I think) you can replace the bearing races for around 10 quid or upgrade the whole headset for 40 quid.

The wheels/hubs are a solid XC oriented wheel and if you are fat and jump a lot or land hard, then you will need to upgrade.
  • It's only a bargain if it's the right size.

Rockhopper Expert real value around £400-£600 depending on condition. But if thats 09 model £450 is a good bet.
If I was loosing £50 but sold bike to my mate I would do it instead of getting E-Bay hassle. There are high fee's + hordes of timewasters. Never mind strangers coming to your house.

On your part you easily can get a quality bike for the money you tend to spend, the summer has gone sir, therefore the off season sales. Your mate lives in pink world if the thinks it will fetch £600.

p.s. I suppose the bike is Rockhopper and not Hardrock.
    What could have been (Video)

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though
  • I recently (last week) bought a 09 Rockhopper expert - in mint condition for £450. Dont know if this helps. Got it from a forum member (BMW)
  • it's not the rockhopper lads, it's the fsr xc expert and he paid around £1300 when he bought it and as diy said it won't cost that much if i have to replace the hub or headset.

medium might be a bit big but it depends what you like and how long your legs are.

give it a whizz and see - sounds like a steal at £500 tbh but no harm in haggling.
