Hi, I'm after recommendations for a route of approx 25-30 miles - perhaps including Dalby Forest tracks? Any suggestions?

have a look at hull and surrounding area on rides, myself and bro are up on moors a lot,you can include dalby starting at hole of horcum, but to do a decent ride including dalby you would be looking at 30+ miles...i was up on moors last weekend(not dalby)...did a little 15 mile ride with a lad who hadnt rode moors b4 and he really enjoyed it,hes looking at coming out with us this sunday in dales...just a 4ought
  • Tony Harkers North Yorkshire Moors Mountain Biking Book - We have used this for several rides and found it useful, available from almost anywhere. Has rides from 10 to 70 miles up in the moors. Check out the ones we have done on our site.

There's been a couple of good ones in MBR this year if you buy that mag - one starting at Newton on Rawcliffe and passing near to Dalby - about 30miles (which also has a decent pub - although it doesn't open until about 6pm on weekdays) and another on the western side of the Moors at Black Hambleton.

We've done a couple of good rides from the book mentioned above

Also a few good websites with lots of routes -

That's fine if you're local and have an idea of what different areas of the NYM offer. Is the OP local or is he visiting the area?

He might want a few decent rides straight off without worrying that the route he created himself is a duff one.

The routes in MBR had very little road riding and many of the ones on those links likewise
  • I ride regularly from Scarborough over to Dalby, Levisham Moor, Langdale Forest, Broxa, Troutsdale, Wykeham Forest, Darncombe, Lilla Cross etc. As I ride from home I usually have to start on the road but I know some good routes depending on what type of riding you want. I am away until the weekend so cannot post details at the moment but if you are interested post what type of riding you are looking for and where you intend to start and I will post some ideas when I get back.

I must do different MBR routes, because the ones I do tend to have a fair bit of road riding....

The Newton on Rawcliffe route has some good singletrack, though we took a diversion round the back of Fylingdales, which had some good technical singletrack. The last 5 or so miles on that route had boring fire roads and tarmac, but I suppose you have to get back to the pub somehow....

There are some good routes around Black Hambleton as already mentioned. A good starting point is Cockayne, with a few nice singletrack DH's around that area.

There is definitley some good riding to be had on North Yorks Moors to suit all biking needs.

There was some road on the Newton one but not too much - it's almost unavoidable to have a bit of road to link up parts of a route.

There was very little road on the Black Hambleton one from the Summer issue and again what there is is purely to link up bridleways and trails
  • Yeah I can understand that being the reason for some road riding, but I do think they tend to use more than they need to.

Obviously from knowing the area a little bit, though not actually the exact route. We were able to knock off some of the road riding, just by looking at the map they issue and taking a small detour across bridleways.

It's just a shame MBR don't see this. Don't think I'm knocking MBR though, because they have helped me find some gorgeous trails.
