Rode the Brecon beast yesterday,
Not a good day !!!
On the split followed the 100km route as planned, really hard rewarding climb over Fan Gyrich and managed over 40 m.p.h on the descent. I then followed all the signs through country lanes around Brecon then at about 65km followed a sign which merged me with the shorter route, not knowing the route i kept on riding but the route took me back into Brecon there were about 15 or 20 people who were lost and had also been mis directed like me, they were riding around trying to retrace the route and pick back up with the 100km.
I had then ridden close to 80km and about 10km since the merge with the shorter route, I decided to cross the line demoralised in a time of 5 hours and 1 minute. I spoke to the organisors and explained what had happened, they said someone could have tampered with the signs and i should leave some feedback on the Website. I told them they needed to check the route as there where at least a dozen people lost on the course. They were not bothered.
So all in all a bad day I had to phone the mrs and tell her I had finished the race about an hour and a half early she was enroute to Brecon with the kids who really wanted to see Dad complete his epic challenge, I know I still did a great ride and came first in the new distance of 80k, although i was the only competitor lol.
hope everyone else had a great time

i'm gutted for you mate, i know how much you wanted to do the 100km.
i'll get my training in and maybe we can find the right route next year0 -
Could have been worse mate, I also did 80km but ended in a different way with my mate and riding partner for the day crashing on the penultimate off road and ending up being air ambulanced out (He is now o.k. with missing teeth, swollen black eye, cut, bruised and scraped). It was a shame as having a cracking ride making very good time. Top notch service from marshals, mountain rescue and air ambulance crew. Will be back next year hoping for a better finish and aiming for a sub 5 hour 30 time.0

Sorry to hear about your mate hope he is ok.Some of those decents are a bit quick and dangerous
Thanks for putting things into perspective,
I was so dissapointed on the day.
But at least I got off the mountains fit and healthy.
Kev, you up for W2 within the next couple of weeks.0 -

yeah, should be mate. as long as you can put up with me slowing you down on the climbs
when you off on the weekend next?0 -
Thats a shame.
I did the 60k, well actually 70k route.
My experience was totally different to yours, I followed the arrows and marshalls and wobbled my way all the way round.
My experience of having done motorcycle enduros in Wales paid off, in that I studied the route map in the signing on room and made small route card so I'd have an idea which way it went and how far various landmarks were so I'd know where I was on the course.
It was my first big mountain bike event and a real eye opener, I was impressed by how friendly everyone was and the many laughs I had with the other competitors along the way.
I could have done without the steep muddy path up through the woods that came after the little bit of road stuff on from going under the bridge, around the 45-50k mark.
I'll be seriously thinking of doing it again next year.0
