presta valve to shrader pump adapter

I've got a shrader (car) valve stirrup pump and a tiny on bike presta pump with a gauge.

Can I get an adapter to use the big stirrup pump on my presta valve? The little pump is fine for a roadside emergency but it's hard work!

Or should I just buy a new big presta pump with a decent gauge on it?

Yup - you can. I got mine in pack with other adapters / football inflators from Decathlon. You can also buy a separate dual-head (Presta & Schraeder) and replace the Schreader -only head on your stirrup pump.

Wouldn't spend too much on it , though - a track pump with a new head and gauge isn't particularly expensive.

So a few quid for an adapter and I won't have a gauge or it's only 20 quid for a new track pump that does both.

Bike shops usually have small brass adapters for both directions. I keep one of each in my seat pack. They're an insignificant cost (quid or so each); get them anyway – you may meet someone on the road who needs it. Having a bike pump and not being able to inflate a bike tyre is boring.
  • Preferably get one with an o-ring:

If you look hard enough you can also get them in aluminium alloy.

I bought a joe blow max II in the end. Does the job much better than my old shrader only pump, there's a pressure gauge built in and doesn't feel like it's going to break at higher pressures as it's metal rather than plastic.

Get yourself a nice frame pump. My Topeak Road Master Blaster will do both types of valves and happily pumps my tyres up over 100psi - I hardly ever use my floor pump any more.
