Need some new gloves, any recommendations? For all use really, but mainly DH/FR so no thin XC gloves etc. Don't need knuckle/finger protection (don't like it) As cheap as possible really, and black/blue or white would be nice :)

Thanks

    661 Raji maybe?

Possibly, have heard they don't last long though? Don't want to spend 20 quid for a months use
  • Gym weight training gloves are excellent, short finger, white real leather padding with blue elasticized back and velcro fastener. "Bodymax" from performance fitness but may also go by other name. Purchased in central london but should be available from other performance fitness branches. About £12, so we purchased three pairs. Best cycling gloves ever, they are just not advertised as such. If you need more info just get in touch, all the best : )

Got some Dakine Coverts (in black obv). Bog-basic but tough. Crashed first time out and a couple of times since, not a mark on the palms.

The old Raji were a bit flimsy and only lasted the summer. I have the new ones and they are a lot tougher they still look okay after a hard summers use. If you want a really tough pair of gloves try the Fox Incline I use mine as my spring/autumn glove and they refuse to die.

Really happy with em. Light enough and super comfy. On sale for just over €13 at CRC too.
  • Hi there, good idea to link so here is one for the fitness gloves £9.00

  • ive also got rajis, the new ones, and they have outlasted the 661 comps that they replaced (although there is now a blood stain on them from where i mashed my little finger into a wall) the gloves didnt hole, but my finger did :) so abit stronger

3 years use and they refuse to die; super comfy and nice and light.

  • Just brought some 661 descend really nice glove.
  • I got some Sombrio Cartel, best all-round glove I've owned by a country mile! For some reason, I find it really hard to find gloves that fit properly. And the Rajis I owned lasted about 5 weeks (that was older ones, from last year).

    Best XC gloves?

    NFL type Wide Receivers gloves.

Not cheap, but stronger than most bike stuff.

Worth trying them on. 661 gloves don't come close to fitting my hands properly, and cause really bad rubbing on the inside of the thumb.
Fox fit me fine, and Dakine have a very similar fit to Fox, although they're a little bit tighter.

Sombrios look like an option now too  And i've seen the Airs, how do they wear?

Rajis, Sombrios, Dakine Coverts or Royal Air - anyone got anything bad to say about any of those..?

    Cheers

Forensics are very good but not as tough as the Coverts. A bargain at £11-12 on CRC tho.

    Airs don't wear

Ok, maybe a little but mine are coming up for nearly a year old and have nearly no wear at all to the palm, the screen printing on the fingers and palms is in pretty good nick and all of the stitching is still fine apart from on one finger where 2 or 3mm's has come apart (really not noticable) when I hit the deck hard, so can't really complain about that, any glove would do that

This and all the 661 used in my house have died in no time sadly :(

    Try destroying these

The 661 Comps on most guys were a wreck after a few months of use, mine are almost as good as new after 1.5 years. Some of them replaced with Raji, and so far all of them are in good shape.
  • 661 Comps for me, last me a season or 2 usually. If you get them on offer they're cheap too.

  • Various gloves that I have used:

Altura something or others - surprisingly good, threw them away because the went mouldy

661 CG2 - Shocking. Crap fit, horrible internal seams, rubber peeled off, ripped easily, stitching came away, very expensive, knuckles were uncomfortable.

Race Face Diabolous DH - better than the 661s, but still fairly uncomfortable. Lasted two years before the palms wore through. Good protection.

Troy Lee XC - Much more comfortable, better shape for the hand. Good for wiping nose on and although an XC glove, gets used for trail/FR/DH. Best glove I've used yet.

Overall I'd say avoid the 661 gloves because they seem to be poorly made. Knuckle protection is pretty overated, since it's normally the palm and wrists that take the hits, so just get an XC glove with a good thick palm heel pad. Troy Lee XC gloves can be had for £16-£23, so if you've got a wierd hand size, bargain!

I've had a couple of sets of 661 comps. Aside from the velcro strap being in a bit of a daft place and coming undone easily, they're a good, comfy summer glove that doesn't wear too fast. however, they're a little thin for winter.

    That's what I've got. Can't fault them.

Whichever Fox you like the look of. Never found anything else that'd tempt me out of mine. Very well made, immediately comfy, last well too. I did finally manage to burst a seam in a Sidewinder after about a year and a half of use but that included quite a few crashes  Other than that they barely even look worn.

Cheers everyone, think it's gonna be the Royals or Sombrios for the cheap option,, or if I can afford it the Dakines. :D
  • Looks like you have made your choice "However"

For those that are reading this thread that havent yet made up their mind

+1 for me on the Troy Lee XC Glove !

They are an exact fit "For me" and offer excellent protection and although the palms are relatively thin they are extremely tough, ive been off a few times now and worn them for well over a thousand miles now and all the stitching and seams are all intact.
