Hi .
I am mid 40s age wise and looking to get back in to mountain biking after a ten year lay off
My aim is to do some cross country hard trail along with bridleways woodland tracks etc Won’t be doing anything extreme off road stuff, big jumps etc .
Currently my budget is up to the £1000 mark mark.
Tried a few bikes out over the last couple of weeks and decided its a full susser i want due to various reasons inc it felt a bit kinder on my dodgy knees and back.
Loved the feel of the Giant Range with the Reign been my fave but out of my price range at the moment.
Saw a Giant Yukon X1 online at Pauls cycles for £549 ,would this be worth a punt for me as a starter bike ??
Would appreciate advice as to best value for money component wise.
Cheers
Jim

The Reign is a longer travel FS bike, I'd be looking more at the Anthem and Trance from Giant for the riding you suggest.
The Yukon is the entry level model and doesn't share the same suspension configuration - but is a good little bike for the money, if a little heavy.
Ideally you need to try the bikes out for size, especially if you have back issues.
I'd also take a look at the Boardman range at Halfords.0
