hi,
got some Tora 318s on a carrera fury which is only a couple of months old. ('08 model i think)
got back from a ride today and noticed that the motion control dial no longer has any affect on the fork.
before, it would be almost locked out when it was on full, but now it does nothing
ive read a few things on t'interweb that said it could be related to oil levels?
anyone got any ideas what could be up with it?
i know its probably a warranty issue but the bike was bought from halfords and i really dont want to have to deal with them if i can avoid it
will i invalidate the warranty if i take it to bits to have a look?

I normally handle my warranties with importers or service centres, cut halfrauds out of the loop. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0

i thought about trying this, but thought i'd just be told to go back to the retailer. could i take it into any rockshox service centre?

Well then it's not the known fault for a Tora (blown seal at the bottom of the cartridge), my advice is to take it to an IBD who dealers with Fisher Outdoor and see if they'll handle it for you. You warranty is with Halfords though and the IBD may charge you postage and labour (if they have to remove the fork).0

Please excuse my ignorance.
Why is his warranty with Halfords?
Warranties are normally dealt with by the company or importer, not the bike shop. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -

Absolutely. If RS have another means of dealing with claims, it is in addition to your rights, not instead of them.
If the fork has been stored upside down it can cause problems: push the fork through its full travel 20-30 times to restore the oil.0 -

hmmm, tried this and it didnt seem to improve back to halfords i go...
cheers for the help0 -
i dropped the bike off with halfords this afternoon.
they guy said they would open them up and see if thy could fix them. i did question whether they were authorised to do this without invalidating the warranty but he assured me they were.
if they cant fix them , they will be sent away for inspection. i think i'd rather they just did this to be honest...
thanks for the help0 -
Yes, they can do what they want with them really lol. Your contract lies with them, they one way or another must return the forks to you working. If they fuck them up, they pay.0

I had something similar with my Revs - usual oil leak into lower leg.
Took them off and sent them back to the mail order shop who built the bike and they stripped them down and were adamant that it was not warranty and wanted to charge me to service them and had the cheek to email me the service interval. They hadn't even done half of the 1st service interval.
I refused and contacted Fishers who were angry that they had taken them apart and confirmed that there was a part that needed changing and if they were just serviced it would happen again.
Fishers got the forks and repaired them and fitted a whole new motion control system - I previously had the internal floodgate (rev 409) but they came back with an external one.
Excellent service from Fishers and kept my faith in RS forks. Faults are inevitable when trying to improve every year and it is nice to know they are happy to rectify them.0
