Anyone care to comment on these, particular if you own it? I do like the the classic look, and I own a classic Bianchi jersey - my favourite top.

My experience of 100% merino jerseys is not very favourable, it makes great base-layers but is too stretchy for a jersey and ends up getting baggy, if you load the pockets they end up hanging right down.

Sportwool or the equivalent merino/acrylic mix is much better as it holds its shape well and has the wear resistance of man-made fabric with the comfort, wicking and odour-free benefits of merino.

I would go for this version of the De Marchi jersey if it were me - De Marchi Pure Classic Jersey

Wool jerseys are great for the retro look but not very practical - particularly if you've laden the pockets or it gets wet - finishing a ride with your jersey hanging below your ar$e. They are pretty good for commuting as they don't hold a stink like synthetics. If you are going to carry anything, complete the retro look with a musette! Vintage Velos also do some great jerseys too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I have the French version... a great top but to echo what has been said above I can see that it will get more outings down the pub than on the bike after another couple of washes. I would suggest going for a blended woolie instead. I have a couple of Columba jerseys which are still going strong and I know that Shutt get a good write up around here too.
  • I've also got a Merino top which sags so I can now use to warm my backside - so definitiely go for a mixed fabric would be my view. I echo RonB's comment about Colomba jerseys, I have a couple which are both great and keep their shape.

I've got a Shutt Jersey too, which looks cool and feels good, and doesn't sag, but the material where the the tops of the pockets join the back of the jersey is has begun to tear (I guess it's parting with the tension of me putting things in and out of the pockets) so much as I like it I can't recommend them so readily
