I hope public sector Vs private sector doesn't become the new Campag Vs Shimano, flat bars Vs drops, road bike Vs hybrid, helmet Vs skull debate.
They are boring, so is this (even if it is more important).
Time for my 2p though.
It can be easier to *hide* in a public sector job if you are lazy/workshy/just not very good.
Anecdote time: I have a mate who worked in the public sector straight out of school until his mid 30's. He's a mate and all that, but he's a lazy so and so. Eventually after years of turning up late, sloping off early and smoking weed on his breaks outside of the building but on the premises and in view of management, he eventually got the sack. Somehow he got some compensation when they kicked him out thanks to his union.
That was about 2 years ago and now he's looking for a job in the private sector, but when has started various jobs (he's on his 4th since he was sacked), he never makes it through the probationary period.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future
FCN 4: Planet X Schmaffenschmack 2- workhorse
FCN 9: B Twin Vitamin - winter commuter/loan bike for trainees
