Honestly. If I had to give an example of the difference between smart and book-smart, this would be it. The guy is a doctor apparently.

I don't understand what's wrong with the news presenters and politicians who speak about it. They have such serious faces and just say that the idea is silly and dangerous. They could at least just say it like it is and say that he's a moronic arse who doesn't know what he's talking about.

If I ever got interviewed about it I would be laughing at how naïve the poor fellow is. Plus, I would just say it like it is; I wouldn't try to be all nice about it in fear of his 'church' getting angry or being insulted.

And as for this predicted attack on all Americans, especially troops in Afghanistan and whatnot, I really don't think (hope) that people are that stupid. It seems to me that if people want to go tar all Americans with the same brush Dr Jones then they really are no better than him. They should really just take a "forgive them, for they know not what they do" approach.

Thoughts?

P.S. If anybody cracks any Dr Jones jokes ... I don't know. Just don't.

    According to Wikipedia
"Although he received an honorary degree from the unaccredited California Graduate School of Theology, in 2002 he was fined $3800 by Cologne courts for using the title “doctor”."

From the little I've read (not sure how impartial or accurate that Wikipedia entry is) he comes across as an egotistical self-publicist. Some of his past "preaching" sounds more like a cult in the making.

Quite how he thinks it's his responsibility to get involved in the debate over the muslim centre in New York when he preaches to 50 people 1500 miles away I don't know, but he has received the oxygen of publicity and somehow got invited up to New York to enter the fray. Maybe if the media had just ignored him, he'd have crawled back under his rock.

Among the many, many people upset with Florida pastor Terry Jones' plan to set fire to copies of the Qur'an on the anniversary of 9/11 are the Westboro Baptist Church, who are complaining about the fact that they burned Islam's holy book back in 2008 and no one paid any attention....
... But fear not - with Jones' now putting his plans "on hold", the Westboro gang are stepping forward to show him how it's done, announcing on their website (via PDF, as they seem to insist on doing) that, as "False prophet Terry Jones caved—like all false prophets do, and like we told you he would", they would hold a Qur'an burning session on the anniversary of 9/11 tomorrow.
If you didn't laugh you'd cry (possibly both at the same time).

    Nutters!

That maybe a quote that muslims are generally unfamiliar with.

Are they going to have fireworks and make effergies of Osama binladen to chuck on the burning pile? If not it's just not got the same "anniversary of a terrorist plot" about it. Do the Americans have no class and style?

But Jones is not muslim - and one shouldn't just pick and choose which bits of a religion suit - or say "but THEY did it first...."

    I downloaded it last night.

I'll burn you a copy if you like.

Not if they are familiar with Surat Ash-Shura verse 43 (Shakir):

"And whoever is patient and forgiving, these most surely are actions due to courage."

That's the great thing about the bible or the koran. The loonies that follow them just justify any action they want. Islam is a religion of peace:

Sura 4-89: “They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): but take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (from what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks…”

Sura 22-9: “As for the unbelievers for them garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skins shall be dissolved and they will be punished with hooked iron rods.”

Sura 47-4: “When you meet the unbelievers, strike off their heads; then when you have made wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives”
  • That's the great thing about the bible or the koran. The loonies that follow them just justify any action they want. Islam is a religion of peace:

II see that you mention the bible but then go on to attempt to display hypocrisy in the Qur'an.
I detect a hint of bias.

If you follow any kind of belief or doctrine, expect to be exposed as a hypocrite if you are not careful.

A bit like those bloody cyclists. Rant on about stupid motorists and then jump red lights or ride the pavement etc.

    Loonies. ALL of them.
