Small present for an ill friend.

My ex flatmate from university has just had an ileostomy (removal of the colon). He'll spend the rest of his life with a plastic bag coming out of his side to collect all the brown waste.
While we weren't close enough for it to warrant a personal visit on my part (it would somehow make it seem even more serious than it needs to be. I want show support, not how awful for him I think it is) I feel I should send him a little present through the post to let him know that people care, and hopefully to cheer him up a bit. Obviously it shouldn't be some big elaborate present, that would come accross very strange, but just a 10-20 quid thing I can send through the post.
We generally bonded over sport. He's a big F1 (keen on Vettel at the moment), Aston Villa, and Rugby fan (England). Does anyone have any good ideas of what I could send him?
I can't stop feeling for the guy. We discussed his chrones disease from time to time, and living with someone you kind of get to know about how the disease works. He was always on this big courses of medication to keep it under control, but it seems they have failed.

have you got some pics of your uni days - if so, get one printed & in a frame and send it. With a note saying happy days - thinking of you0

How about an autobiography from one of those sports you mention? There are plenty of rugby one's especially. You could write a personal message within the book. I'd certainly appreciate something like that, perhaps he would?
I'm sure whatever you send will be appreciated under the circumstances."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -
definitely not boil in the bag rice.
Funnily enough just today I got in touch with a mate from uni on facebook and he too had croans and had to wear a bag. We shared a flat and we all knew of his predicament and used to joke about it. I think for the person with the "prob" they get used to it, it always seems tougher looking in from the outside.
You can never go wrong with vouchers. Lets you put a personal message in it too.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -

Yeah, those had crossed my mind too. Only I know NOTHING of rugby, beyond the players' propensity for dressing up as women and homo-erotic pranks.0 -

How about this trio of books, being a special offer, via Amazon at a little over £16?

(see top of page)
Alternatively there is a good biography on the life of the late, great Ayrton Senna, also available from AmazonCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom0 -

Here's 18 pages of them - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lion-Man-Autobiography-Ian-McGeechan/dp/1847397492/ref=pd_sim_b_8 Any rugby fan would be interested in McGeechan's story because of the British Lions and it is a good read. I also recommend the Richard Hill (Saracens) one, again a good read and one of the World's great flankers.
Just cover in beer, urine and mud to give it that special edge!"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -

DVD of the music you guys shared in college.
Bought my mate OMD's "Architecture and Morality" dvd one year for Christmas.
Took us right back to the White Horse pub, Newark town centre Christmas/Jan. early 80's.
Ye olde town market square, beamed buildings, Electro-pop and snow, lots of snow...0
