Here's a detail of stage 7 (they travel left to right). Showing a King of the Mountains summit and an intermediate sprint.

Now can anyone see a more fun, publicity grabbing place to put the sprint? I'm sure Griepel would be up for it.

You can just see Ned Boulting doing a little piece from there for ITV.

It's right there in front of you in big black letters....CAVENDISH!!!
  • Cavendish is a pretty place to, the roads approaching descend slightly and join smooth surfaced, twisting roads . The location of the sprint is dull in comparison :(
  • How can there be a 1st category climb on this route when then hills are not really very high.

bcuase the TofB people don't have the inclination to go to proper hills. i doubt there's a hill in england south of derbyshire that could even be classed as a real hill. get them up hartside pass next year, they'll love the hair pins, its just like alpe s'huez!

  • They could have gone up north hill in little baddow (not far of the route) this goes from
    40ft to 360ft over about 1km.
Have just downloaded the race manual and it states that its a 3rd category at 50m start to 75m finish so not really much of a hill at all.

Wow, a first cat climb in an area of 100m elevation (I hesitate to call it altitude) and, yes, that would be rather good if they had a sprint in aforementioned place :D

I was using something called sarcasm. :D
  • Putting that sign up for Mark was a waste of time - he's in Spain anyway, he'll never read it.

And shouldn't the yellow bit read something like 'rubbish race with only people you hate in it'?

    Didn't think it through.
  • Who's Clare Cavendish?
  • Here's the leaders at the start of the Milden King of the Slight Incline today.

I was a bit stunned by the numbers of support vehicles - about 25 police bikes, 30 non-police bikes and 40 or so support cars. Quite a sight in itself.

  • Obviously noone here with a geography o-level then.

Tees-Exe line? imaginary line connecting the two rivers, to its west lies the hills, to the east flatness and higher house prices

Didn't see anyone on here saying differently. Someone commented that there's no hills worth mentioning in England south of Derbyshire though which is slightly different! By the way have you seen the prices of houses in the Cotswolds or places like Rock, Padstow and Salcombe?
  • Erm it's not a 1st cat climb it's the 1st nominated climb of the stage. Probably a flyover (joke) The ToB is improving but its' media is blx. Buried in the dark hole that is ITV4 you can cut and paste the commentary. And there is just no result releases to the rest of the press world. I appreciate a serious God botherer is in town but today I have been able to keep up with fairly obscure cricket matches but not a hint of a description of our home stage tour.

I totally agree re the sight of the all the police and support motorbikes on stage 7, quite a sight. The police operated the rolling roadblock with cracking efficiency.

On another note, stage 8 yesterday in London was a superb free event to visit. Very fast cycling (didn't look it on tv later) and very exciting. My kids got photos with G and Greg Henderson, Ned Boulting and Dean Downing. PLus the highlight for the 5 yr old was sitting on a police motorbike and evening putting the coppers helmet on as well (no jokes please).

Everyone was very generous and friendly. Back next year? You bet.
