Hi

I was in a bike shop today and happen to mention that some of the roads I ride on are bad..

The guy suggested that I change my typres for 700x25, as they will be better for the winter months + they will make a big difference on bad roads

I have a Wilier Izoard. Only had it 2 months

If anyone has changed. What did you get ???

cheers

it might make a small difference, but probably not as much as you might be expecting. Different tyre manufacturers have different ideas on what constitutes a 25mm tyre anyway. For instance, in my own experience Conti 25s come up about the same size as Vittoria 23s...

A 25mm tyre has an air pocket about 60% bigger than a 23, therefore you can run the tyre safely at a lower pressure without the risk of pinch punctures - running the tyre slightly softer also means that the contact patch is bigger and gives more grip and better handling. Don't expect much difference if you pump them up to 120psi though.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Roads in my area are poor, so I use 25mm tyres on my "winter" bike. Vredestein Fortezza on the front, Conti Gatorskin on the back, on wider rims, Mavic Module 3. I like it so much I tend to ride this bike all year round. I find it makes a huge difference and makes the ride much nicer with little apparent loss of speed. Give it a go.
