Does anyone know any clubs around Durham? I know of Derwentside cycle club but they only seem to do weekly time trials and I'd prefer to find a club that does informal longer rides

there is Sunderland Clarion Club, i know it's approx 10 miles away depending what part of Durham you live in? been out on a club run with them and done a couple of evening runs along the coast, nice bunch of lads, haven't had a chance to join yet due to personal reasons but hoping to join at next month's meeting. Have a look at their website - http://www.sunderlandclarion.org.uk/
they do quite a few club runs south of the area so should be no problems for you.
Alternatively there is a cycling shop in framwellgate moor - Infinity Cycles, been there a few times, friendly bunch always willing to help give advice, they have a club but i think it's essentially a racing team club, worth a visit tho.
  • there is a list of clubs on the British Cycling website, which you can sort by area

http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/clubfinder has found ferryhill http://www.ferryhillwheelers.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=63&Itemid=83 as well as clarion http://www.sunderlandclarion.org.uk/

    Cheers both.

It's hard for me to do it regularly as my wife works shifts so I'm often baby sitting at the weekend. I've never been part of a cycle club before, I presume I can just drop them a note and turn up on the Sunday morning? And if I do more than one or two rides they'll ask me to pay and join properly?
