New chainset for Planet X Uncle John

I want to change the chainset on my Uncle John PX cyclocross bike.

At the moment it has Sora on it with STI's for a triple. It has a custom chainset now with low gearing for cyclocross (only one chainring at the front) so the left STI is not connected to a front mech. So three questions:

1) Could I fit a compact given the Sora triple STI? If not I guess it would need to be a triple.

2) I thought I would get an FSA chainset because the black would go well with the look. Are FSA ok?

3) On a £75 budget what would you go for?

Thanks

You can use a double chainset with a triple shifter - you just have a spare 'click'
The FSA Gossamer CX from Planet-X is a good deal for £75 - doubt you'll find a better chainset for less.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Thanks Monty Dog thats good to know. May well go for an FSA crankset. Plan B is to treat best bike to new crankset, possibly FSA, then move the Tiagra chainset to Winter bike.
